The Simple Life...Yeah, right!
Poorly Pooch 2
20/02/2011 19:58After a traumatic few weeks for my poorly pooch, I thought it would be worth updating you on how he is doing. His knick-knacks (or lack of them) seem to be recovering nicely. Bonus!
However, since his operation, my poor little doggy has been suffering a few epileptic fits. Devastating stuff! It's heartbreaking to see such a thing happen and I wish there was something we could do. He is on tablets to prevent them but he has had a couple of mild attacks since. We're trialliing the dosage at the moment so that we don't give him too many or too little. Hopefully we will get them just right but it means that poor Rolls will be on these tablets for the rest of his life.
We (me, Momma J and Poppa J) have done some internet research into epileptic fits within dogs. It seems that they are fairly similar to human's experiences. By this I mean that they need to be comforted and reassured of your presence. They cannot be enticed out of the fit, they need to come out of it on their own. Almost ten minutes can be traumatic - I've only seen one that lasted a couple of minutes but my parents experienced the more severe ones. As I said before, heartbreaking.
Rolls always seems somewhat disorientated after his fits but never seems traumatised by them. The internet does state that it's more traumatic for the people around the animal though.
We are keeping a close eye on him and making sure he has his tablets routinely. Zeus, our Jack Russell, on the other hand, has other ideas...it seems that he is giving Rolls more of an active-based treatment...
